Vocational education and training (VET) are key to develop the skills and competences that EU farmers need to succeed in a world shaped by rapid technological changes, digitalisation and global sustainability challenges.
By exchanging inspiring practices and experiences among teachers, students, training providers and other EU and national actors the event wants to highlight the role of VET to enable an attractive farming sector ready for the twin green & digital transition, and identify priorities and successful approaches for the development of the right skills set.

"An EU school scheme fit for the future"
The EU school scheme, applying since 2017, supports the distribution of fruit, vegetables, milk and milk products to children, to increase their consumption, together with educational activities to reconnect children with agriculture and teach about healthy eating habits.
While it already addresses the new objective to improve the response of EU agriculture to societal demands on food and health, which is set out in the reform of the Common Agricultural Policy for the period after 2020, there is scope for enhancing its contribution to sustainable food production and consumption. The revision of the scheme aims to strengthen the educational dimension of the EU school scheme and enhance the focus on healthy, nutritious and sustainable food production and consumption and the reduction of food waste, in line with the Farm to Fork strategy (Action No 25).
This conference will be targeting public authorities and private stakeholders involved in the design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of the current EU school scheme (national/local authorities – schools – businesses including farms) and the academic and scientific community. It will provide the opportunity for the Commission to present to stakeholders the preliminary findings from the evaluation, public consultation and Eurobarometer and gather their views and suggestions on the preliminary proposals assessed under the impact assessment. An initial overview of these elements was set out in the inception impact assessment.
